Terms of service

These terms apply to your use of Free Alt Text Generator at free-alt-text-generator.com ("the service"). By using the service or creating an account, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

The service is provided by Dean Donovan, eenmanszaak (sole proprietorship), trading as Free Alt Text Generator, Hoofdweg 1323, 2151 MA Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands. Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 81088957, VAT NL003528514B83. You can reach us at support@free-alt-text-generator.com.

2. The service

  • You upload images and we use an AI model to suggest alt text for them, which you can copy or export as CSV.
  • Alt text is generated automatically and can contain mistakes. Check it before you publish it. You are responsible for how you use it.
  • We may improve or change the service, for example the AI model we use, as long as it stays suitable for generating alt text.

3. Your images

  • Only upload images you have the right to use, and nothing illegal.
  • Your images and the generated alt text remain yours. You give us permission to process your images only to generate alt text for you. We don't store your images; see our privacy policy.

4. Your account

  • You need an account to use credits or to generate more than the daily free images.
  • Keep your login details safe. You're responsible for what happens with your account.
  • One person per account; don't create extra accounts to get more free images.

5. Free images

Everyone can generate a limited number of images per day for free (currently 5), with or without an account. The daily limit applies per person, browser and network, and resets every day at midnight UTC. We may change the free limit, and we may block use that tries to get around it.

6. Credits, plans and payments

  • Generating alt text for one image costs one credit.
  • Subscriptions are billed monthly, quarterly or yearly, and renew automatically until you cancel. Every plan gives you a fixed number of credits each month, also when you pay per quarter or per year.
  • Unused subscription credits roll over, up to a maximum of twice your plan's monthly credits. Credits above that cap expire when your new monthly credits are added.
  • One-off packs give you a fixed number of credits that don't expire and don't count towards the rollover cap.
  • All prices include VAT. The price you see is the price you pay.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. If a renewal payment fails, you won't receive new credits until it succeeds.
  • We may change our prices. For an existing subscription, a new price only applies from your next billing period, and we'll tell you by email in advance so you can cancel first.
  • Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred to another account.

7. Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel a subscription at any time; it then runs until the end of the paid period. Refunds and the EU right of withdrawal are explained on our refunds & cancellation page.

8. Fair use

Don't:

  • use bots, scripts or other automated means to use the service, except through features we offer for that;
  • try to get around the free limit, rate limits, bot protection or payments;
  • disrupt the service or try to access data that isn't yours;
  • use the service for anything illegal.

If you do, we may limit, suspend or close your account.

9. Availability

We do our best to keep the service available and working, but we can't guarantee it will always be available without interruptions or errors. If a generation fails, the credit or free image is given back automatically.

10. Liability

If something goes wrong because of us, we'll first try to put it right, for example by giving back credits or generating the alt text again.

If you still suffer damage, we only compensate the direct damage you can show was caused by us. That compensation is never more than the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage; this is a maximum, not a fixed amount. We are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost profit or lost search rankings.

These limits don't apply to damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or where the law doesn't allow them, and they don't affect your rights as a consumer.

11. Closing your account

You can stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing support@free-alt-text-generator.com. We may close accounts that break these terms. If we close your account without you breaking these terms, we refund any unused credits you paid for.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For important changes we'll email account holders at least 30 days in advance. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect.

13. Applicable law

Dutch law applies to these terms. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may also go to the court there.
